Here’s a classic starship design from the Pre-Federation time period- the Daedalus Class Starship. It’s too bad we never got to see this class of starship in action. Having read a portion of the novel “The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor’s Wings”, the Daedalus class is mentioned a number of times as being pressed into service to support the Coalition of Planets as they prepare for conflict against the Romulan Star Empire.
The design itself was born from the conceptual designs by Matt Jeffires as he was working on the design that led the Starship Enterprise from The Original Series. It is also the obvious precursor to the Olympic Class Federation Starship that made an appearance in the The Next Generation’ series finale “…All Good Things.”
Here are a couple of MSDs for the Ambassador Class Federation Starship. The first was rendered by Alexander Richardson (check out his blog at lcarsgfx.wordpress.com). The other is from an unknown source.
Here is the MSD, or cutaway view, of the original Constitution Class Starship. This appeared onscreen in the Mirror Universe episodes “In a Mirror, Darkly…” pts 1 & 2 during the 4th season of Enterprise, when the crew boarded the U.S.S. Defiant.
As some of you may have seen in a previous post, I redesigned my Pioneer Class starship so that it would fit into the new timeline created in 2009s Star Trek. Well, here we have another attempt to embrace the new design philosophy. Anyone who has played the video-game Star Trek D-A-C should recognize the design as the Support Vessel. We made a slight addition in that I felt it needed a deflector dish. Since its overall design was similar enough, we named this the Akula Class after the ship class that has appeared in the PC game Starfleet Command.
Next up, we will be trying a simple re-imagining of the Saladin class.
